Pulse Propagation in Optical Fiber Using Wavelets
نویسندگان
چکیده
The propagation of optical pulses in a single mode fiber is analyzed by solving nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) equation numerically. The propagation is modeled using a split-step wavelet method, analogous to the split-step Fourier method, while retaining the advantages of the wavelet transform. Pulses and pulse sequences are accommodated with equal ease, as is frequency chirping of the light source. The technique has been used for obtaining the propagation features of a pulse in an optical fiber. The effect of chirp and pulse power on the propagation characteristics has been studied

Unique Solution of Short Pulse Propagation in Nonlinear Fiber Bragg Grating
In this study, a new numerical method is introduced to obtain the exact shape of output pulse in the chalcogenide fiber Bragg grating (FBG). A Gaussian pulse shape with 173 ps width is used as an input pulse for lunching to a 6.6 mm nonlinear FBG. Because of bistable and hysteresis nature of nonlinear FBG the time sequence of each portion of pulse is affected the shape of output pulse. So we di...
متن کاملModelling Optical Pulse Propagation in Nonlinear Media Using Wavelets
A wavelet based model for propagation of optical pulses in nonlinear media is presented. We obtain an O(N) algorithm for linear propagation by replacing the wavelet-domain propagation operator by its Taylor series approximation. Nonlinear propagation is then achieved by adding the nonlinear term in mid-step in a method analogous to the split-step Fourier method. Using wavelets ooers the advanta...
متن کاملEFFECT OF LOSS AND PULSE WIDTH VARIATION ON SOLITON PROPAGATION Part I. Fundamentals of soliton propagation
In this work, the propagation of solitons in single-mode optical fibers has been investigated theoretically by using the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. This equation combines the effects of group velocity dispersion and self-phase modulation present in optical fibers and also takes into account the loss of optical fiber. The nonlinear Schrödinger equation has been solved numerically by using t...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of Chromatic Dispersion and Fiber Attenuation in a Single-Mode Optical Fiber System
Chromatic dispersion and fiber attenuation pose a great problem in the detection of optical signals. Dispersion causes pulse broadening which limits the information carrying capacity of the fiber while attenuation limits the maximum transmission distance along the fiber. An approximate Gaussian pulse propagation model is obtained from the solution of Nonlinear Schrödinger Equation to represent ...

Picosecond laser pulse propagation in monomode optical fiber is demonstrated and investigated by numerically simulation in this paper. The numerical simulation is done by nonlinear Schrödinger equation with the aid of Mathlap program. The results show that self phase modulation (SPM) leads to broadening the spectral width from 5nm to 38nm after 50m of the fiber length and accompanied by tempora...
